Tshogshing Lhakhang

Located on the top floor of the Museum, is the Thogshing Lhakhang or Chapel of the Tree of Merit.  Sculpted in clay, it depicts the four schools of Mahayana Buddhism, their founders, lineage holders, disciples and tutelary deities. The images face the four cardinal directions.  The four schools of Buddhism practiced in Bhutan are Nyingma (West), Drukpa Kague (East), Dagpo Kague (South) and Gelugpa (North).  The intricately shaped clay objects are contemporary and were made in 1975 by a clay master along with his team in Paro.
